Local Area

The villages of Vélez Rubio, Vélez Blanco, Chirivel and María as well as the natural park of Sierra María – Los Vélez make up the region of Los Vélez.

The market town of Vélez Rubio is the largest of the four towns. Nestled at the foot of the Mahimón mountain dominated by the Encarnación Church, a National Historical Monument built in the 18th century on top of the remains of what was the San Pedro church.

Vélez Rubio is a town that retains its heritage, culture and traditions. There are cafes, bars, restaurants, shops, supermarkets and a weekly street market where one can buy locally produced fruit, vegetables, meats and cheeses.

There is a tourist office and the local museum has a collection of pieces found in the Los Vélez area and comprises a sequence of materials from the most primitive phase of Prehistory to contemporary historic objects of the popular ethnographic culture.

There is a doctors surgery and local schools including pre school nurseries, primary and secondary schools and institutes for international baccalaureate preparing students for university.

Designated a Natural Park in 1987, the Sierra Maria Los Vélez is a haven for walkers, ornithologists and anyone interested in nature. The park covers an area of more than 22,500 hectares with the largest gathering of birds of prey per square kliometre in Andalucia.

The Castillo de Fajardo, better known as the castle of Vélez Blanco, sits upon a spur of the Mount Mahimon above the town. The castle appears on many postcards, books and publications for the province of Almeria.

The region of Los Vélez is the largest producer of organic almonds in the world. The region also produces olive oil, cereal cops, cured hams and there is an award winning organic vineyard 12 kms from the property.

The region of los Vélez is at a crossing point between the provinces of Almeria, Murcia and Granada making day visits to these cities an easy option.

Less than an hours drive to the Pulpí Geode, also known as the Giant Geode, one of the largest crystal caves ever found, and the largest accessible geode in the world.

All apartments have heating and air conditioning. They are self contained and have kitchen, lounge/diner, bathrooms with bath and/or shower, bedrooms with 2m long beds. All beds are adaptable and can be easily adjusted to double beds or twin beds. Travel Cots and small beds (for children up to the age of 5) are also available.

Apartments 1&2 are split level with kitchen, lounge, diner on the lower floor and full bathroom and bedroom upstairs. Fabulous views of the Mahimon and La Muela mountains.

Apartment 3 is a ground floor apartment that has been adapted for disabled use.

Apartment 4, 5 and 6 are two bedroom apartments on the ground floor.

Apartments 7, 8 and 9 are two bedroom apartments on the first floor. These three apartments have false balconies in the bedrooms.

BBQ´s are available for guests to use.

There is an outdoor seating area on the first floor with views of the Mahimon and La Muela mountains and surrounding countryside.

There are outdoor table and chairs for each apartment for al fresco dining.

Communal areas include:
